Where do ocean waves get their energy? how is it transferred?

Ocean waves usually get their energy from the passing by winds and gravitational pull of the moon. Winds cause the friction to build up and hence forms a crest by pulling up the water. Furthermore, the earthquakes and underwater landslides also supply the ocean with a great energy which mainly results in tsunamis.

The energy of the wave can be transferred by easily by the process of disturbance. This causes the water to move up and down and transfer the energy over long distances.
