It develops from experience with people and learning from success and failures in social settings. It is more commonly known as “tact” or “common sense”. Social intelligence is the capacity to communicate and form relationships with empathy and assertiveness. As it comes from knowing yourself and exercising proper emotional management. The frontal lobes subserve decision-making and executive control that is the selection and coordination of goal-directed behaviors. The results support a model of human frontal function that integrates reasoning, and creative abilities in the service of decision- making and adaptive behavior. Known as, the seat of self-control, it suggests that as you age it is more likely for your social behavior to develop and gradually you may unintentionally become more socially inappropriate without even realizing it. Much of our social behavior arises from neurobiological and psychological as well as our social status which are critical to aspects of human society and its evolution. The research shows that seemingly trivial mental abilities stop us from doing the wrong thing and help us do the right thing in a various socially challenging circumstance. Something as minor as showing curiosity, listening actively without interrupting, developing empathy, or tuning into others needs are a few ways you can develop social intelligence. Social intelligence gives us the ability to understand and manage interpersonal relationships, and enabling us from knowing when to talk, listen, what to say, and what to do. It helps individuals build relationships and it is important to numerous aspects of a person’s life. It allows an individual to form friendships and alliances as well as it assists a person against being taken advantage of. People with social intelligence can “read” other people’s faces and know what motivates them. Social intelligence builds over time and as a person gets older or ages. In this sense, it is like the character strength of perspective. It allows us to function as humans, we are social beings and rely on each other’s cooperation. By understanding ourselves and other people, we can find ways to collaborate for mutual benefit. Strong leaders often possess social intelligence in abundance. To motivate people, leaders must form relationships and inspire others to want to do what needs to be done. Social intelligence includes an individual’s ability to understand, and act on, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of other people. This type of intelligence can take place “I the moment” or face-to-face conversations but also appears during times of deliberate thinking. It involves emotional intelligence and self-awareness. We use social intelligence in our daily lives whether it be at home with our family, at work, or even when we go to store or out in public. Individuals with this strength may be described as attuned, understanding, insightful, aware, empathetic, and discerning.
