Loess is a windblown silt that blankets the landscape. There are several places all around the world where silt blanket and windblown dust blanket the landscape, this layer, which is made of mineral-rich materials is known as loess.

Loess is commonly formed by wind and can as well be created by glaciers. Loess covers ten percent of the total world land area. Generally, Loess is homogenous and it is highly porous. It is rich in oil and looks like dust.

Also, Loess is pale yellow and it is usually non-stratified but mostly consists of calcium carbonate

Loess is found in large deposits in northern China and some other places around the world such as central Europe, North America, some parts of Russia and Kazakhstan.

However, the thickest loess is very close to the Missouri River in the state of Iowa and can also be found close to the yellow river in china.

Also, loess mostly builds up close to deserts and often it develops into very rich agricultural soil. It contains mineral-rich materials. Seeds can be planted in loess because it can be easily broken up
