Before the Aswan Dam was made there was an old dam which was not as high as the Aswan Dam. In Pre-Aswan during the late summers the Nile flooded annually. The flood caused high waves which helped transfer many types of minerals to reach the Nile and which made the Nile an ideal place for farming.

After the Aswan Dam was made some tensions in the Arab world were caused. The Dam is saves the water which helps the Egypt because there is less rainfall in the area and helps the water supply throughout the year.
