it is important they have different characteristics so we can differentiate them as species. These different characteristics can also help them survive and adapt in their habitats. for example: a polar bear has certain characteristics to help them survive the tundra whereas a turtle couldn't survive that harsh weather and needs a more warm and tropical climate.
