Why does white‐nose syndrome (wns) affect hibernating bats more than active bats?
body temperatures are lowered during hibernation.
torpor exhausts bats' energy reserves.
bats become severely dehydrated because they have no access to water during hibernation.
wns decreases the number of arousals from torpor, leading to starvation.
active bats can fight off the infection.
