1.) a day after it finally stops raining, you dash out into the field and get a 500 cm3 soil sample that weighs 650 g fresh. after air drying, it weighs 550 g. you take a 50 g subsample, pop it into a 105c oven for 48 hrs, and find that it weighs 47 g. you take another sample and determine that soil moisture at permanent wilting point is 9% water content (gravimetric). assuming a typical particle density, calculate the following ( show units):
the last person that tried to answer my question calculated the bulk density and got 1.3 g/cc which my professor said it was incorrect. would like a second opinion.
i) bulk density
ii) gravimetric and volumetric soil moisture of the fresh soil sample taken from the field
iii) total porosity (% pore space)
iv) approximate field capacity
