The weathering of carbonate rocks or minerals,  produce different acids as well as water. Some acids are hydrochloric acid, carbonic acid also bicarbonate. Again they break down from the element to produce CO2  into the atmosphere.

The main source for the generation of atmospheric CO2 is from the carbonates on the earth. But weathering of silicate does not liberate much CO2 than carbonate. The carbonation is more effective in weathering than silicate. Most of alkali metal like sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium undergo the process of carbonation. Silicate minerals contribution to atmospheric CO2 is very less.
