All of the geographical landscape on this list is located in the Southern Hemisphere, in the continents of Antarctica, Australia, and the New Zealand islands. The Ellsworth Mountain Range is largest and highest mountain range on the frozen continent. It has a roughly north-south direction, being 48 km wide and 360 km long. The Bentley Subglacial Trench is the lowest point on the surface of Earth that is not covered with water, being over 2.5 km bellow sea level. It is a very deep trench that is covered with ice. The Western Plateau is one of the major geographical features of Australia, occupying large portion of the western part of the country, and being a vast plateau, which is very dry and mostly dominated by desert and steppe. The Gulf of Carpentaria is located just north of the country, being surrounded bby sea waters on three sides. It is a very shallow and warm gulf which connects Australia with Southeast Asia. Christchurch is the largest city on the Southern Island of New Zealand. It is located on a very bad location when it comes to being in danger of earthquakes, and that was perfectly demonstrated few years ago. The city has a beautiful meandering river passing through it and cutting it in two.
