if i want to say :

fish; meat
salt

same for:
- le bifteck ; la viande
- des carottes ; le légume
- le sel
if i wanted to say:
-beef; meat
-carrots; vegetable
-salt

(you used the definite article everywhere, so that's what I changed "les" carottes)

we usually say "les légumes"...

if you say "la carotte, le légume => ok

         OR    les carottes; les légumes => ok

I still don't understand why you write "le sel" and nothing else after
