I believe this moment shows how mature Scout has become. In this chapter we find how Aunt Alexandra wanted to introduce Scout to the world of the “ladies”. Preparing her on how she should act, think and do in the future. Almost at the end of the chapter her father appears with terrible news (about the “murder” of Tom) talking with Calpurnia and Aunt Alexandra in the kitchen. Scout eavesdropped and heard the news. Instead of acting like a child and start “fooling around”, she remained calmed. The final realization came when she saw her aunt and how she remained with the same composure. Finally, she understood that if her aunt kept calm after those terrible news, she could also do the same.
