Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) was the leader of the American civil rights fight in the United States, he was an activist and a Baptist minister.
He delivered his speech "I Have a Dream" on the 1963 March on Washington on the Lincoln Memorial, which became one of the defining moments on the American Civil Rights movement.
On his speech he created an impact for the American people by asking where the promised liberty was and how unfair was segregation for the African American people.
The words which Martin Luther king Jr. included in his speech that highlight the limitations of segregation are:
Crippled:
"One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination."
Poverty
"One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity."
Racial Injustice:
"Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood".
Opportunity, democracy and hallowed spot are also found under his speech but are not meant to highlight the limits of segregation.
