In his persuasive writing, "The Crisis, Number I", by Thomas Paine, he appeals to anger to persuade people that the right thing to do is to free themselves from Great Britain. His purpose is to persuade the colonists to unite against Great Britain. He uses language that can be clearly understood by everyone so as to unite them and make them want to fight for their independence.

The American Crisis is a collection of articles by eighteenth century philosopher Thomas Paine. The texts were originally published from 1776 to 1783 during the American Revolution.There are sixteen pamphlets in total, and in them, Paine argues for the support of an independent America. The essays helped boost American morale, explained many of the issues between England and America and denounced the advocates of a negotiated peace. The pamphlets were extremely influential during the Revolutionary War.
