Explain in about 200 words how the symbolism of the mockingbird relates to the following things: boo radley, tom robinson, innocence, violence.

The most obvious choice of a mockingbird figure is Tom Robinson. To get to this conclusion, we have to first define what a mockingbird is. Atticus says to Jem and Scout that he would prefer that they only shoot tin cans with their new guns. The mockingbird is perhaps the biggest symbol in "How To Kill a Mockingbird", it connects to Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, innocence, and violence. Atticus says to the children that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because they do no evil and do nothing but sing for (do good things for us) Boo Radley relates to a mockingbird in "How To Kill a Mockingbird" because of his innocence. Boo Radley stays in his house for almost the whole story not hurting or harming anybody; but when he does come out he saves the lives of the children.

  Tom Robinson relates to a mockingbird because although he was accused of raping Mayella Ewell he is innocent of all wrongdoing and in fact he was doing nothing but helping Maya Ewell. The mockingbird relates to violence because although it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, it was done in the book when they killed Tom Robinson; which is why it is called "How To Kill a Mockingbird".
