An example of a thesis statement (in italics) in a compare-and-contrast essay would be:

"Beowulf, the greatest epic poem of English Literature, delves into the conflict between three great opposing elements: Christianity against paganism, men against monster and light against darkness. These elements of the poem are the core of the main conflict of the entire story: the ongoing confrontation between the unbalanced yins and yangs, which expect to become the only defining force."
