This technique can give us a general meaning of the word and should only be used when we do not need an exact meaning. Thus, this technique should not be used when the understanding of the passage depends on the definition of that unfamiliar word, when the same word is repeated several times and we don't have enough information to infer its meanings, and it should not be used when the word has several meanings because it can be confusing.
