Based on the excerpt of the student's speech, it can be said that the rhetorical device being used is "Ethos". The excerpt is trying to make an appeal to ethics. The speaker is trying to establish his credibility by making enumeration of what he has done and what he can do.He is trying to convince the audience of his character and his capability.

getting ready for work:

i sit up in bed, the time is 6: 15.

i go in the bathroom and take a long hot shower and brush my teeth.

i get dressed then grab my keys and open the door, then i realize it is raining so i go back   and get an umbrella.

when i get in my car it has very little gas and right when i get there my car runs out of gas.

when i get inside i am fired for being late.
