They were a pretty selfish bunch, often with additional antisocial tendencies thrown into the bargain--in other words, not exactly role models for the younger generation of today. But knowing their names and exploits is essential for understanding references in literature and even popular culture today. A more accurate question is what did the Greeks "Value" in a hero. For on the Greeks valued that hero's embraced their mortality or more accurately the fact that they'd sacrifice themselves for the fate of others. They also valued their "Superhuman abilities. More likely their abrupt strength, intelligence, and their war strategies. Although I'm sure they never encouraged war. A weird reason is their Un heroic behavior Wait I misread that. That reason being is because they may be hero's but they don't bathe in their pride of saving someone and go about bragging that they did so. And another reason which I can't really explain is impermanent death.
