Call of the wild was written by jack london. he created buck as a happy and well behaving dog. he loved his happy family and his cozy life. but when buck was stolen and moved, he was not prepared for the cold or the labor. he then had to use his instincts to survive. the author wanted to make buck strong. he also made a "wild side" to him so when someone, or something, upset him, he wouldn't back down.
