Characters often reveal themselves slowly across a story. Readers must keep an eye out for details about characters to notice what traits they seem to have. Traits are different than emotions. While emotions are reactions and feelings "in the moment," traits are patterns of behavior that make a character who they are. Characters, just like all humans, are complex. They have many traits, both likeable and unlikeable. Some traits a character possesses can be helpful to the character, and others can be not-so-helpful or sometimes harmful. Think about all the traits you've noticed Paul possesses in The Land. What is a trait you've noticed about Paul that is helpful to him? How has it helped him? What is a trait you've noticed about Paul that has not been helpful, or maybe even harmful to him? How has it harmed him?

thank you
