If Polonius were an actual person living today, he might be called upon to share his advice with a
greater audience of young people-think a magazine advice column or Dr. Phil. Though the
words are more than 400 years old, the lessons from Polonius' monologue in Hamlet Liliare as
relevant today as they were when Shakespeare penned the words.
Directions:
Choose one piece of advice given by Polonius to Laertes: Craft a short letter, about 5
sentences long, in which a "teen" poses a problem and asks Polonius for advice. Consider
the style and tone a teen might take when writing such a letter. Then, in the persona of
Polonius, write a response to the teen letter based on the piece of advice you chose from his
words to Laertes. The response should use modern English and consider modern-day
issues, but should be mindful of the style and tone you would expect from Polonius. His
response should be in the neighborhood of 8-10 solid sentences, or a substantial paragraph.
Make sure you include the original advice from the text in your response.

What is the rhyme scheme in this excerpt from longfellow's, "the tide rises, the tide falls? " (10 points) the tide rises, the tide falls, the twilight darkens, the curlew calls; along the sea-sands damp and brown the traveler hastens toward the town, and the tide rises, the tide falls.
