100 POINTS!!
Create a Public Service Advertisement (PSA) about an important social issue.
In this assignment, you will publicize an important issue. Consider issues that have
come up in texts you have read recently. Research the issue and create a print PSA
and a plan for a video PSA. Your plan should include a storyboard that reflects a
compelling visual presentation with evidence to support the issue you choose.
Create a video PSA about a topic of social relevance. Make a compelling visual
presentation with facts and details to support the issue. State your issue in the form of a claim, explain why it is important and what people need to know about it, and provide reasons and evidence. Finally, create a print form of your ad to accompany the video. Step 1: Choose a topic for your PSA. a) Choose an important issue. Think about the issues you read about during this quarter to help you choose. b) Brainstorm messages that you might send about that issue. c) Choose one message to send. This message is your claim. Step 2: Research your topic. a) Search for information about your topic. Use keywords on an Internet search engine and look for credible sources, such as newspapers, magazines, or
government, education, or organization websites.
b) Read articles and look for relevant facts, statistics, details, descriptions,
quotations, and examples that support your message, or claim.
c) Keep track of where you get your information. Copy and paste or write down
all links, titles, and authorâs names.
Step 3: Outline key ideas.
a) Make an outline of the key ideas you want to present in your PSA.
b) Include important reasons and supporting evidence.
c) Remember to save your work as you go.
Step 4: Create a storyboard for a video PSA.
a) Begin with the PSA storyboard template or start your own file. You can print
out the file to work on it by hand, or you can work on it on your computer. If
you choose to print out the file and work on it by hand, be sure to write clearly
and legibly so others can read your words and identify your punctuation and
capitalization.
b) Create one storyboard panel for each key idea.
c) On each panel, include:
d a sketch or clip art to show what will happen during that part of the
video.
a description of what will happen, including any spoken or written text,
diagrams, and audio information.
a source if the panel presents evidence from research. Remember to save your work as you go. Create your print PSA. a) Choose a key idea to turn into a print PSA.
b) Use an image that grabs the viewerâs attention and represents your message.
c) Include your message and supporting evidence.
d) Include a slogan if you have one.
e) Include all sources for images and information.
f) Remember to save your work as you go.
Step 6: Evaluate your presentation using the checklist.
If you can answer âyesâ to each question, you are ready to submit your PSA.
ďż Is your PSA about an important issue?
ďżDoes your PSA clearly communicate a message?
Did you use reasons and evidence to support your message/claim?
Is your evidence relevant and from credible sources?
Does each panel of your storyboard include a sketch, a description of what will
take place, and sources for all information?
Does your description describe all action and dialogue? Does your print PSA include a strong image? Does your print PSA have a clear message? Does your print PSA include a slogan? Have you included sources for all information?
Step 7: Revise and submit your PSA storyboard and print PSA files.
a) If your work does not yet meet all the requirements on the checklist, revise
your presentation and save it before submitting. b) Once you have completed your storyboard PSA and print PSA, you will save your two files. Because you will upload just one file, you will need to create a zipped file of your PSA storyboard and print PSA. c) Return to the Virtual Classroom and use the âBrowse for fileâ option to locate
and submit your assignment. Congratulations on completing your assignment!
d) Ask your teacher for further instructions about presenting your work to an
audience and possibly turning your storyboard into a PSA video.
