In 1891, James Naismith taught physical education in Massachusetts. Naismith needed to come up with an indoor game for his class. He wrote down 13 rules for a new game. He called his new game "Basket Ball." The game was
a hit. Within days, students were enjoying the new sport. Soon, people across the country were playing it.
Eventually, his game became the sport we know as basketball. Naismith's famous list of rules was sold in 2010.
