Answer the questions below about the myth; Icarus and Daedalus. Realizing that the youth had been “captive” on the island for so long, how do you think Icarus felt when he experienced the “freedom” of flight?

What was going through Icarus’s mind when he soared higher and higher into the sky?
Was Icarus’s death preventable? What could the young man have done differently?

How responsible is Daedalus for his son’s death? Everyone gives credit to Daedalus for being so cunning and smart, but was he wise? Should he have given his son wings when he was too young and foolish to use good judgment? In modern times, would it be wise and responsible for a father to give his thirteen-year-old son the keys to a sports car, and then simply warn him to be careful?

How does Icarus embody the trait of being rash (foolishly impulsive)?

What values does this story teach?
