After reading an informational text, like an article or a research paper, you may be asked to respond to a prompt or question. That is what you will do in this assignment. Read the following prompts. Then, using academic vocabulary, write a response of 5-7 sentences for each of the prompts (3 paragraphs total, one per prompt).

Remember these examples of academic vocabulary?

verbs: analyze, conduct, contrast, determine, develop, evaluate, focus, illustrate, infer, interpret, recognize, and resolve
nouns: category, conclusion, factor, identity, issue, organization, research, role, significance, structure, and support
These and similar words can be useful in your response.

Do the following when writing your response:

Carefully and thoughtfully read or reread the text you are responding to.
Look for connections between the text and your personal experiences. Be prepared to describe those connections.
Begin to write your response, using the prompt or question as a guide.
Consider how academic vocabulary can fit into your response.
Return to the text to locate evidence to use in your response.
Provide textual evidence to support your response, and use academic vocabulary.
Reread your response to make sure that you addressed the prompt and that you used academic vocabulary in your explanation.

The brochure “5 Tips: Protecting Your Checking Account” details steps people should take to protect their personal banking information and finances. Which of the five tips do you think is the most important to follow? Explain why you feel this way.

In the article “How to Make the Most of Your Debit Card,” the author explains that consumers can use their bank-issued cards as debit cards with the use of a PIN, or they can use them as credit cards, which requires that consumers sign for purchases. The author often suggests that consumers use their debit card as a credit card and sign for their purchases. Do you find the author’s evidence convincing? Explain why or why not.

In the article “Making a Budget,” the author explains why creating a budget is important, and the author describes how to create one.
