This is a quote from "Life of Pi" and I'm trying to figure out what kind of literary device it is, "My Roman soldier stood in the schoolyard one morning when I was twelve... He saw me and a flash of evil genius lit up his dull mind. He raised his arm, pointed at me and shouted, 'It's P*ssing Patel!'... I walked in last, wearing my crown of thorns". I'm thinking it's a metaphor but I'm not too sure. Can you also explain what kind of impact this quote would have on a reader (connection and empathy, make the abstract concrete, motivate the reader to act, feel or experience etc.)? Thank you!
