Hello! could somebody please read over this piece of writing and give me feedback. I am trying to improve my skills in writing the writer's effect. This is from past paper 0500/11 May/June 2020. The overall effect and use of language creates an image that the waters are full of life and that it is a nice day outside. The writer begins by describing the shoals of the sprats as “zigzagging, dividing, and reuniting.” The use of these adjectives, particularly zigzagging, creates an image that the sprats are playfully moving around in the waters. The use of three adjectives emphasizes the idea of the sprats being very mobile in the waters. The writer also describes the appearance of the sprats as “mesmerising light reflected off these iridescent fish.” The use of the adjective mesmerizing suggests that the writer is in awe of the colours reflected off the fish and also suggests to the reader that the waters are calm and still because the reflection from the fish can be seen clearly. The writer then describes the movement of the penguins swimming as ‘fly[ing] through the water’. This creates the image that the penguins are a majestic creature that is swimming with ease and creates the effect of the penguin being a strong creature, stronger than the sparts. This is ironic because the penguins get trapped in the oil but the sprats remain free from it. The overall effect and use of language in paragraph 9 creates an image that the penguin thought the narrator was trying to hurt it when in reality the narrator was trying to save the penguin - it also enhances the idea of the narrator being a ‘hero’. The writer begins by describing the attitude of the penguin as ‘aggressive bird.” The use of the adjective aggressive creates an image that the penguin is dangerous, this makes the reader think more highly of the narrator because he is selfless because he is helping the penguin and is also brave because he is standing up to an aggressive penguin. The writer then describes the look of the penguin as ‘pure loathing’. This indicates that the penguin thinks of the narrator as a predator but the penguin is not scared of the narrator but instead is angry at it. Almost as if the penguin knows that the oil spill has been caused by humans and recognises the narrator as one. Finally, the writer describes the moment that he caught the penguin and that he had the ‘swiftness and bravery of Achilles.’ By comparing himself to Achilles he is suggesting to the reader that he thinks that he had performed a heroic act and is very proud of his movements.

What is the meaning of each underlined word in these excerpts from "a modest proposal" by jonathan swift? i think it is agreed by all parties, that this prodigious number of children in the arms, or on the backs, or at the heels of their mothers, and frequently of their fathers, is in the present deplorable state of the kingdom, a very great additional grievance; and therefore whoever could find out a fair, cheap and easy method of making these children sound and useful members of the common-wealth, would deserve so well of the publick, as to have his statue set up for a preserver of the nation. some persons of a desponding spirit are in great concern about that vast number of poor people, who are aged, diseased, or maimed; and i have been desired to employ my thoughts what course may be taken, to ease the nation of so grievous an incumbrance. the word prodigious means . the word desponding means .
