Mathilde get s home from the party and discovers the necklace is missing. Monsier Loisel gives Mathilde th e money to buy herself a dress for the ball. Ten years later, Mathild e meets Mme. Forestier while taking a walk. Mme. Mathilde’s husband s earches for the missing necklace, b ut never finds it, so they borrow t he money needed to buy a necklace e xactly like the one that was lost. Mathilde and her husband live like paupers and work hard for ten year s to repay the debt they created af ter buying a new necklace to give b ack to Mme. Forestier. Mathilde’s husband brings home an invitation t o a fancy party hoping to cheer his wife up, but the invitation makes her more upset because she has noth ing to wear.
