Situation

Reflect upon what you have learned about the period of time known as “ Reconstruction ” and originally intended to “ Reconstruct” the southern portion of the United States after The Civil War. However. southern states were able to “deconstruct” policies and prohibit African Americans their freedom. Instituting sharecropping, Jim Crow laws, and allowing the Ku Klux clan to thrive ensured African Americans were demoralized and unable to realize social or economical freedom as racism prevailed.

Writing Prompt #1 What circumstances allow demoralization, fear, and prejudice to thrive today? How? What can you do at school and within your community to prevent these from thriving?
