Noble, but not perfect; Hero is FLAWED.

Tragic hero must experience a change or recognition; he/she must gain in self-knowledge and many times this leads to redemption (though hero will not win or have a happily ever after).

Downfall is partially his/her own fault; it is not done to him/her or caused by an accident. Hero's downfall is normally triggered by some error in their judgement.

Generally, the punishment is greater than the crime.

Story is sad, but does not leave audience depressed; as Aristotle stated, tragedy is meant to negatively excite and upset the audience but cleanse them through the hero's tragic fate.
