In “Minerva Writes Poems”, Minerva and Esperanza bond over their love of poetry. When Minerva comes to Esperanza’s house beaten and bruised from her husband, she asks Esperanza what she should do. In 4-5 sentences, write her a note as though you are Esperanza and tell Minerva what she should do to make her life better and any advice that would go along with it. While you are writing, think about the physical and emotional damage that comes with physical violence, if Minerva doesn’t make a change in her life, how can the physical abuse hurt her down the line?
