Step 1. Choose five (5) articles or short stories. Choose at least two different genres. In other words, do not choose only short articles or only short stories.

Choose selections that illustrate a different author's purpose. Do not choose only 'inform' or 'entertain' for all of your choices.

summary of the selection (a paragraph of 7-10 sentences)

the author's purpose with justification for your reasons
