In February 1942, the United States government began a concerted effort to
forcibly remove and incarcerate people of Japanese ancestry from several western
states. Never before have the government casted aside core principles of
American democracy in the spirit of protecting the people, land, and war effort
from perceived threats. These threats supposedly comes from people of a certain
nationality. Caving to public and political pressure, a program was implemented by
the government that still weighed heavily on the public conscience all these years
later.

Several factors contributes to the decision by the United States government to
removed people of Japrese ancestry from the West Coast States. An underlying
and pervasive factor is the racial prejudice that are inflicted on Japanese
Americans-and Asians in general-from their earliest arrival in the United States.
