Vincent did twenty-five self-portraits in Paris, more than in any other period of his career. His studies of his own image, seen in a mirror, show his preoccupation with self-examination.

Why might van Gogh have been so prolific in Paris?

He met many artists whom he admired, and his primary focus was art.
The city inspired him to paint.
He was living with Theo, so he had to produce a great deal of work to prove to his brother that he deserved his allowance.
