During the American Revolution, the Patriots were a group of colonists who wanted to separate from British rule. The colonies were divided but since most colonists considered themselves Patriots, the Patriots represented the largest demographic in the 13 colonies. Lawyers, merchants, military officers, and farmers were pushing for independence and a self-run government for the colonies. Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Paine, Ethan Allen, and Paul Revere are some of the famous Patriots. They had a great impact on the outcome of the revolution and war.
