Next, write in the central idea or question that you’ll focus on. For example, if your topic is “how to be assertive,” you could include a statement about the importance of assertiveness in professional situations. Whatever your topic, you’ll need to narrow your focus enough to deliver a compelling presentation in 5 to 10 minutes.

passive voice: the keys will be left (by mom) on the counter.

the words in parentheses are the agent of the passive voice and can be omitted when obvious, generic, or simply unnecessary.
