Following the French and Indian War the British passed the Proclamation of 1763, which stated that the colonists could not settle the land west of the Appalachia Mountains. Prior to the war the colonists were prohibited from settling in this area because the French had laid claim to it and the Native Americans were inhabiting it. After the war the French were no longer the protectorates of this land and the British now controlled it. The whole reason for the war, and that the colonist fought, was to settle the dispute on who had rights to this land the British or the French. As that was settled in the Treaty of Paris (1763), the colonist now felt that they should have rights to settle the land west of the Appalachia Mountains. Scenario:
You work 40 hours per week earning $10.00 per hour for seven years (Seven Years War) earning $145,600. You give every cent of that money to your parents, every paycheck. You do this because your parents say that if you do it you can buy their house if you can earn and give them $145,600. However, once you finish earning the money your parents tell you that you cannot buy or move into the house, because your brother/sister still lives there and that because you were working, they had to pay a babysitter and pay a gardener so in fact you own them money (Intolerable Acts). Additionally, you can no longer make your own rules because they feel that you have been getting too wayward lately (end to Salutary Neglect).
