The above question is from “Initiation” by Sylvia Plath. Millicent always had her doubts regarding joining the sorority. Therefore, she would reveal the thoughts she had been having but kept a secret.  

She would tell the sisters that she does not wish to be a part of their sorority because she is in no condition to lose her individuality. She wants to be free and not change herself to fit into their standards.

Dialogues that Millicent might say after the initiation could be as follows:

Millicent:

•Thank you for the opportunity. I have always wanted to join this sorority because I wished to be popular just as you guys are.  

•But I have come to the realization that I would rather keep my individuality and be my best, authentic self than be a follower.

•I would not want to do things that I do not believe in.  

•I hope that you will not hold this against me and maybe we can still be friends.

•I would wish to have the freedom to choose my own friends as well.

The above question leads us to think about the internal conflict that Millicent is facing and she is struggling to find motivation for joining the sorority. Millicent would not like to alter her personality for the sake of joining a sorority and would like to preserve her individualism.
