Unfortunately, the EDS was not built to accommodate an additional weight apart from the crew and the medical supplies it was carrying.

Secondly, the pilot knew that for the crew to survive, Marilyn must be jettisoned.  This decision confused Marilyn greatly since she did not think that her death was deserved.

Thirdly, when Marilyn had accepted her fate, Barton the pilot wanted to save her at all cost and as long as it was possible.  But he could not risk the loss of the crew and the medical supplies for the Colonists for the sake of Marilyn, who was not factored into the Cold Equations for the EDS.

Thus, "The Cold Equations" did not create allowances for plan deviations.
