what is the real definition of success, in fact is there even a definition? well, in the book outliers, malcolm gladwell it is the story of success. some successful people are born with talent, and skills. as others may have to put in hard work to get to where they are. every successful person is different, which means there is no definition for being successful. being successful is made of many different categories. many successful people are born with talents, put in hard work, and are different from everyone else.
many successful people are born with special talents or skills. specifically, talents are such as height, speed, strength, awareness, smartness, and many other abilities. such as, yao ming. he was the tallest chinese center to ever play basketball. he was born with that height, and put it into use. in the book outliers, malcolm gladwell finds analytics and found that the younger players were more selected than older in hockey. as it also goes with when you are born. you could have big hands like odell beckham, speed like usain bolt, or even be as smart as einstein. however, some people may need to work hard in order to achieve their dreams.
some people work hard to achieve their dreams. there are people who don't give up on their dreams because others don't think they've got what it takes. many people complain about not having the height, speed, intelligence, or anything. malcolm gladwell lists outliers in the book like marita. marita was a kid who lived in a legacy where they were in a poor neighborhood and where people couldn't provide for their family. that didn't stop her from changing her legacy. she woke up at 5: 30 am everyday and got back at 5 pm. she would do her homework until midnight and she was only twelve. this is a good example of working hard to achieve a person's dreams. marita's community didn't give her what she needed, so she made something herself.
everyone is different in many ways. there are many different types of successful people. different methods or strategies are used to become successful. an example in the book outliers is used when testing creative people and smart people. it showed that creative people and intelligent people had different scores on different tests. as the creative people could score better on the brick test rather than the iq test. the brick test was a test that questioned people what can you do with a brick and other materials. terman who was the experimenter found that intelligence cannot predict success as many of the intelligent people didn't grow up to be successful.
there are many more different reasons for malcolm gladwell writing this book. many successful people are born with talents, put in hard work, and are different from everyone else. as the other argues there is no main point or one way to become successful. he mentions many ways of how people became successful. terman's experiments were important in the cause that many people had misunderstood that intelligent people will always become successful. in that case it was false. the author argues the main points of success are people being born with special talents or skills, hard work to achieve your dreams, and everyone is different in many ways.

The harlem renaissance dawned in an era of pervasive racism and segregation. although legally "free," many african americans were still bound by ideas that had their roots in the slavery of earlier centuries. identity and freedom are important ideas presented in many of the poems from the harlem renaissance. furthermore, the values of identity and freedom are not unique to particular times and places. as hughes expresses in "dream variations," all humans want to be able to develop their identities in freedom. what role does freedom play in the poems you read in this unit? what is required of a society to enable each individual to be true to his or her identity and be free to live by that identity? write about at least three of the poems, describing how the poet uses imagery to depict freedom and identity, the lack of it, or the desire for it.
