What tasks must psyche perform for venus? how are they accomplished?

1. Sorting out a huge pile of seeds (mixed wheat, barley, poppyseed, chickpeas, lentils, and beans) into separate heaps by dawn. A kind ant takes pity on Psyche, and assembles a fleet of insects to accomplish the task.

2. Cross a river and fetch golden wool from violent sheep (belonging to the Sun) who graze on the other side. Psyche's only intention is to drown herself on the way, but instead she is saved by instructions from a divinely inspired reed, and gathers the wool caught on briers. 

3. Fill a crystal flask with the black water from the rivers Styx. While scaling the cliff she is daunted by the slithering dragons that reside there and falls into despair. Jupiter himself takes pity on her, and sends his eagle to battle the dragons and retrieve the water for her. 

4. Return from the Underworld with a box of beauty ointment of Persephone. Once again in despair over this impossible task Psyche climbs a tower in order to kill herself but the tower breaks into speech telling her where to find the entrance into the underworld (Taenarus). It also gives her instructions for navigating the underworld. The speaking tower warns her to maintain silence as she passes by several ominous figures: a lame man driving a mule loaded with sticks, a dead man swimming in the river that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead, and old women weaving. They only serve as distractions and she is to ignore their cries for help. Everything goes according to plan and Prospering grants Psyche's humble entreaty. As soon as she reenters the light of day, however, Psyche is overcome by curiosity, and can't resist opening the box in the hopes of enhancing her own beauty. She finds nothing inside but an "infernal and Stygian sleep" which sends her into a deep sleep.
