Why was swift criticized for the ideas satirized in gulliver's travels?

Although Gulliver's Travels was an enormous success, the book was also heavily criticized. Critics claimed that Swift took a very unkind position towards humankind, and that this portrayal was inaccurate. They believed his comments to be harmful, inappropriate and offensive.
