They are often used in argumentative speeches and essays to persuade the audience of a certain idea or opinion. Ethos means appeal to ethics, Logos is appeal to logic and Pathos is appeal to emotions. When an argument addresses a counterargument it strengthens its ethos, logos, and pathos.
