Daylight savings time (dst) is the common practice of setting the clocks forward an hour from the standard time during the spring and setting the clock an hour backward in the fall. the idea of daylight savings time was first proposed in 1784 by benjamin franklin. however, germany was the first country to implement daylight savings time in 1916.
because there is no considerable difference in the duration of day and night experienced in the tropics, people in these countries do not practice daylight savings. it is believed that daylight savings time is practiced to better enjoy summer evenings. this practice has been very controversial throughout the years. many studies have shown the positive effects of daylight savings time. many researchers have proven that daylight savings time leads to energy preservation. there is a considerable decrease in the use of energy for artificial lighting during the evening hours. some studies have also claimed that daylight savings time leads to fewer road accidents and injuries by supplying more daylight during the hours when people use roads.
