an excerpt of russ's summary of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe

lewis’s novel has a magnificent lion named aslan who allows himself to be killed to save a child from death at the hands of an evil witch. the lion is mocked and ridiculed before being killed: "why, he's only a great cat after all! how many mice have you caught today, cat? " aslan is resurrected and reappears to two girls in the novel. the kind and gentle lion reassures them that even though the witch’s magic is powerful: a deeper, stronger magic is at work in their world. he explains that because he is free of guilt and was willing to take the place of the intended victim, “death itself would start working backward."

russ read c. s. lewis's the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe and compared the story to verses in the bible. use his summary and the biblical verses russ read to analyze how c. s. lewis transforms this biblical account.
