Which text structure is present in this paragraph?
these stories have many similarities. first, they represent puritanism with their common themes of sin, redemption, and guilt woven throughout. in the crucible and the scarlet letter, adultery is the focal point of sin. whereas hester tries to redeem herself and live a moral life, her lover, arthur dimmesdale, simply wastes away because of his guilt. in the crucible, john proctor suffers a similar fate—his downfall is his own guilt over his affair with abigail and the loss of stature he fears he will suffer if his sin is exposed. he waits too long to expose abigail’s motives and therefore suffers far worse consequences than loss of stature. although john and arthur handle their guilt in two different ways, guilt ultimately destroys them both. both men punish themselves because of their sins.
