One fact:

Kapos were prisoners that were in charge of other prisoners. They are an example of how in life-threatening circumstances, the instinct to survive overcomes everything else. Even though they were also Jewish, and they were also prisoners, the Kapos committed horrible acts in exchange of some sense of security, motivated by a desire for self-preservation.

One opinion:

At the beginning of the book, Eliezer is a very religious kid. He has studied Jewish mysticism and his faith is very strong. However, the events of the Holocaust shock him, and he wonders how God could allow something so horrible to happen. I believe that the fact that he questions his faith and identity is a mechanism to ensure his survival, as this allows him to avoid complete despair. Therefore, the instinct to survive overcomes everything, even his faith.

From the given statement "In life-threatening circumstances, the instinct to survive overcomes everything else." in the "Night" by Elie Wiesel it is human instinct to think of ways for him or her to survive. The body will dictate its own and acts on its own if all else fail.
