Read this passage. Charles Washington, youngest brother of George, inherited land from his half-brother in Jefferson County, in what is now West Virginia. He began construction of his home, Happy Retreat, near the future site of Charles Town in 1780. Which sentence could be added to the passage and maintain its formal style? Charles must have thought it would be cool to build a house and name the town after himself. Can you believe what an ego this guy Charles must have had to name the town after himself? In 1786, Charles designed the plans for the town that would soon bear his name. It must have been nice for Charles to get an inheritance and be able to build a house and a town!
