Fires have broken out across the complete country, with New South Wales and parts of Victoria being amongst the worst affected areas. per Australian Koala Foundation’s Deborah Tabart, thousands of koalas have died to date within the blazes, with the animals losing over 80% of their natural habitat within the bush. Tabart has expressed great concern within the remaining numbers of the koalas, while Port Macquarie Koala Hospital has launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist fund automatic drinking stations for the animals. According to the hospital, staff, together with National Parks and Wildlife Service crew leaders are trying to find the animals within the Port Macquarie area, and up to now, over 31 koalas have been dropped at the hospital from fire grounds. The koalas are rehydrated, examined for burns and treated with cream and bandaged, with the dressings being changed every three days. So the ways to help them when there are fires are donations are being collected for WIRES, the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service that are working to produce rescue, water, shelter and look after animals. The general public can even support the planet Wildlife Fund Australia and RSPCA NSW. Communities and other people can even be helped with donations to nongovernmental organizations and NGO, in addition to GIVIT. The NSW Rural Fire Service has founded a page where members of the general public can support the families of the fireplace fighters that have died battling the flames.
