Excerpt 1 But the aircraft a year ago had been different. It was not a squat, fat-bellied cargo plane but a needle-nosed
single-pilot jet. Jonas, looking around anxiously, had seen other-adults as well as children-stop what they
were doing and wait, confused, for an explanation of the frightening event.
Then all of the citizens had been ordered to go into the nearest building and stay there... Instantly,
obediently, Jonas had dropped his bike on its side on the path behind his family's dwelling.
Excerpt 2
"Why do you think the visitors didn't obey the rules?" Mother asked.
Lily considered and shook her head. "I don't know. They acted like... like..."
"Animals?" Jonas suggested, he laughed. "That's right," Lily said, laughing too. "Like animals."
Neither child knew what the word meant, exactly, but it was often used to describe someone uneducated or
clumsy, someone who didn't fit in.

Read this excerpt from "a visit from the goon squad."that’s when he began singing the songs he’d been writing for years underground, songs no one had ever heard, or anything like them—“eyes in my head,” “x’s and o’s,” “who’s watching hardest”—ballads of paranoia and disconnection ripped from the chest of a man you knew just by looking had never had a page or a profile or a handle or a handset, who was part of no one’s data, a guy who had lived in the cracks all these years, forgotten and full of rage, in a way that now registered as pure. untouched. how does the author use satire in this excerpt? the author is criticizing media censorship. the author is criticizing the idea of isolationism. the author is mocking society’s overuse of technology. the author is mocking man’s inability to freely express himself.
